Climate Justice & Just Transition:

Brighters tackles climate injustice and enhances community resilience by actively involving young people and diverse stakeholders across local, national, and global platforms. Our interventions adopt an integrated approach, combining climate awareness, advocacy efforts, and grassroots solutions. In 2023, key areas of focus included improving climate literacy, amplifying youth perspectives in climate decision-making processes, and championing climate justice principles in policy reforms. Through our wide-ranging initiatives, we engaged and empowered more than 15,000 young individuals and community members, driving positive change towards a more resilient and equitable future.

Highlights

Bangladesh Youth Climate Parliament

The Bangladesh Youth Climate Parliament, inaugurated in August 2023, marks a significant step in addressing climate challenges. With 170 young participants from diverse backgrounds, the initiative focuses on renewable energy and local climate issues. It aims to elect 10,000 "Youth MPs" across 300 constituencies, promoting youth engagement, capacity building, and policy advocacy. The program addresses constituency-specific climate vulnerabilities and fosters collaboration for grassroots climate resilience solutions, empowering youth to drive sustainable development practices and enhance community resilience.

Global Climate Strike

The Global Climate Strike, initiated in 2018 and inspired by Greta Thunberg, has evolved into a worldwide youth-led movement demanding urgent climate action.Global climate Strike is mobilizing millions globally, advocating for climate justice and renewable energy transition, and influencing policy discussions. In Bangladesh, Brighters Society has been instrumental, mobilizing over 28,000 youth since 2019, conducting strikes across 64 districts, and adapting to online activism during the pandemic. The movement has increased public awareness, pushed for corporate sustainability, and demonstrated the power of youth in shaping environmental policies and driving change.
